Saffron

Kashmir produces world’s best saffron. The hills near Pampor are ideal for Saffron. The framers depends completely on the rain so the yield is not much. The Kashmiri saffron costs around Rs.50, 000 per kg. While Iranian and Spanish saffron is much cheaper. As traders can sell Iranian and Spanish saffron as Kashmir saffron they don’t pay much to the farmers so many farmer are shifting from Saffron farming to Apple farming. Kashmiri saffron is culinary treasure of India, people of India should show interest in it the way we show interest in our architectural or musical heritage.

Wow!I had no idea that kashmiri saffron is the mst expensive and such. Like a lot of other people i was under the impression that spanish saffron is the most exclusive!! It sure is something that needs to be preserved and not abandoned.
